you can click on team numbers at the bottom to zoom to a specific team in the stands.  If you zoom to 971, you will see me drinking a soda, and the other admin of this blog, Charlotte, three spaces down with a yellow headband :) You can also see the drive teams of 971, 111, and 67 at “Red Alliance” (even though we were on blue). FRC Team Numbers Matching Game →
Match the team number with the team name :) 971 created a matching game that cycles through about 40 FRC teams/numbers.  Enjoy! ~971 edit: this now has 53 hits! Albeit at least 15 of them are from me alone…

Freshmen and rivets
Last year, our team discovered the wonderful, wonderful thing that is Celco pins. These are temporary poprivets that let you snap together a drivebase without putting in permanent rivets.  They are SO NICE. And our freshmen do not understand the wonder that is Cleco pins. They mock us when we explain how annoying/time consuming using rivets was. They need to learn differently. We...

“We wanted to craft a show that puts the process of problem solving and ingenuity front and center, and we’ve done exactly that with Unchained Reaction,” Savage said. “Mechanical movements, pyrotechnics, and large-scale destruction are encouraged,” according to Discovery. are we wrong, or is this not a show built for FRC? premieres in March on Discovery.

We were done with the CAD, but apparently there’s this thing about the sheet metal having to obey physics, or something ridiculous like that.  psh.  obeying physics is for squares. and mobius strips.

a little build season story.
so today we had a label maker and decided it would be cool to name the electronics after ourselves.  but then we realized that if anything ever broke it’d be “the teresa blew up again!” and “the scott is malfunctioning!” and then we stopped naming parts of the robot after ourselves.  the PD board is labeled ROY tho. But he’s a mentor so no one can yell if he...

Scouting Update
I think we have our scouting-related stuff together this year! We spent hours taking apart the game, trying to figure out how exactly to get the information we need, and mentally idiot-testing everything.  Anyone else notice that there is a ton of subjective stuff in the game this year?

Just got back from the lab! (There are still people there, by the way.) And we would like to have a shout out for our wonderful mentor Roy who took us to get ice cream. And yes, we did realize that the ice cream was a whole 14 degrees colder than the outside air temperature. But we ate it anyway.  Anyone else pulled their first twelve hour shift yet?

Top 10 Songs About Robots via @scottjanousek →
npr: twicr: An impressive collection .. if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s great to see “Robot Parade” here. But how is it possible that “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots” isn’t on the list? —Wright suggested songs to play in the lab during build season, perhaps?

Oh, of course. This is required. I think we actually got the name, if not any of the challenge, last year.

What We're Going To Do For Kickoff
(well, what we hope to do for kickoff) 1. Have a sleepover 2. Kidnap the freshmen from their houses 3. Play kickoff speech bingo 4. Eat tons of donuts 5. Actually print out the rulebook immediately so we don’t have to download it a bunch of times 6. Introduce the freshmen to the complete and utter confusion that is the first read-through of the rules (you want us to do what with...

In which we try to get the school to understand...
I don’t know about other teams, but we have a very interesting relationship with the school administration. Most of the time, they happily ignore us. But when we go to fill out forms (like, say, for a field trip!), they get all confused. “Okay, send your teacher sponsor.” “We don’t have one” “Oh, okay. Then get this signed.” “….it...

Drive team practice shenanigans :)
Some friendly competition between our two drive teams (the times are how long it takes to fill one rack top-bottom): Douglas gets 1:16 Scott gets 1:10 Douglas gets 1:12 Scott gets 1:04 Scott said he will buy anyone who breaks 1:00 a double double.  Also, we had to take apart a bane bot gearbox and find what was making the wrist jam. We found not one, but THREE pieces of metal! (We saved the...
